How is The Extractigator different from competitor devices?

The answer is in the design. Competitor models are designed in an "L" shape. The pivot (or fulcrum) is a fixed distance from the plant to be removed, and requires a large amount of operator effort at the start of the removal – at an uncomfortable vertical level requiring much physical strength. The design of the Extractigator is one which has a variable pivot distance, allowing the operator maximum force applied to the plant at the beginning of the pull (when it is needed the most) with the lowest amount of operator effort. The handle is in a position which allows the operator to use body weight as the advantage – not physical strength. As the plant is removed, the pulling distance is increased. One size is all you need. The jaws open to a full 2”, yet can pull out delicate- stemmed plants such as thistles. The jaws are designed to resist clogging from bark or debris, while still applying full gripping force. The construction of the Extractigator is of high quality steel, professionally welded with strength and weight as considerations. Grade 8 High Tensile steel bolts with Nylock (self locking) nuts are used as the pivot pins, as they have over 4 times the strength of normal steel. Competitor products use mild steel pins, some even weakening the pins by the heat intensive welding process. The Extractigator is fully guaranteed for materials and manufacturing. Each Extractigator is hand made in British Columbia, Canada, and individually inspected before shipping.

For the technical people...

Competitors' products have up to 6:1 pulling power. That is, if the handle is 60” long, the distance from the plant to the pivot (fulcrum) is 10”. If you apply 10lbs force to the end of the vertical handle (very hard to do!), you are applying 60lbs of uprooting force. The Extractigator begins the pull with a minimum 12:1 ratio, with the handle at a height which allows the operator to use body weight as the pulling force. If the operator applies 10lbs of body weight to the end of the handle, he or she is applying initially 120lbs of uprooting force to the plant. After the initial pull from the ground, less effort is required. The fulcrum distance increases to remove the entire plant. With the minimum 12:1 ratio - If the operator applies 100lbs of body weight to the end of the handle… that’s 1200 lbs of uprooting force!!
